2021 Typhoons Season
Typhoons Parents:
With summer quickly approaching, the Swim Team Committee would like to provide information about the upcoming season. We are excited to have many new families this summer, and we realize that there may be questions new families have that we haven’t yet addressed. Please feel free to reach out anytime! We do not yet have all of the details for the upcoming season, but we will pass along additional information as soon as we receive it.
Typhoons Team
- Location: All practices and home meets will be held at Park East Pool.
- Practices: Practices will be held in the evenings 5 days a week between June 1 and June 18. Team practices switch to daily morning practices on June 21. The practice schedule is available at: https://typhoons.swimtopia.com/practice-schedule.
- Meets: We will have five meets this summer. Meets are held on Monday evenings. The meet schedule was recently finalized and is now available at: https://typhoons.swimtopia.com/swim_meets. It is possible that some of the meets may be run virtually this summer based on team preferences. We do not yet have information about which teams, if any, may ask to compete virtually. If a meet is held virtually, we will conduct our portion of the meet at Park East on the Monday evening, and the opposing team will conduct their portion of the meet at their home pool. Times will be compared the following day to determine points. Meets are optional. So if your swimmer is not comfortable competing or if you have plans to be out of town, no problem.
- Swimsuit: The deadline for purchasing team swimsuits has been extended to May 25. If you have not yet had the chance, please call or stop by Colonial Sports ASAP to place your order. https://typhoons.swimtopia.com/team-uniform. Swimmers are welcome to wear their team swimsuit to practice but not required.
- Swimcaps: We highly recommend the use of swim caps in meets. If you have not yet purchased one, we will have extras available all season. https://typhoons.swimtopia.com/merchandise.
- Typhoons Merchandise: All merchandise orders (including shirts, swimsuits, swim caps, and visors) will be delivered to your swimmer at practice once the order arrives. We anticipate receiving all merchandise orders prior to the first swim meet.
- Volunteering: If your child is swimming in a meet, then we will need your help running the meet. Most new volunteers are asked to be timers, although we will have additional volunteer positions available. We will reach out for volunteers in advance of each meet.
- Team Picture: We do not yet have a date on the calendar, but we will be offering team and individual pictures mid-season.
- Private Lessons: Our coaches also offer private lessons that you can arrange with them individually for more personalized time and instruction. Contact information can be provided on request or you can speak to one of the coaches in person once the season starts.

- As a reminder, Typhoons team members must be able to swim the length of the pool at the beginning of the season.
- Location: All practices will be held at Park East Pool.
- Practices: Practices will be held Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 10-10:30 a.m. starting on June 21. The practice schedule is available at: https://typhoons.swimtopia.com/practice-schedule.
- Meets: Typhoons in Training members are considered non-competitive, so they do not swim in meets. However, if your swimmer develops the ability to swim the length of the pool during the season, he or she is welcome (but not required!) to switch to the Typhoons team and to compete in swim meets.
- Swimsuit: Typhoons in Training are welcome but not required to purchase a team swimsuit. If you anticipate that your swimmer may be moving over to the Typhoons team and may wish to swim in a meet, then it would be helpful to purchase the swimsuit now. https://typhoons.swimtopia.com/team-uniform.
- Typhoons Merchandise: All merchandise orders (including shirts, swimsuits, and visors) will be delivered to your swimmer at practice once the order arrives. We anticipate receiving all merchandise orders prior to June 21.
- Volunteering: Parents of Typhoons in Training are not required to volunteer at meets. However, if your child moves over to the Typhoons team and chooses to swim in a meet, then we will need your help running the meet. Most new volunteers are asked to be timers, although we will have additional volunteer positions available. We will reach out for volunteers in advance of each meet.
- Private Lessons: Our coaches also offer private lessons that you can arrange with them individually for more personalized time and instruction. Contact information can be provided on request or you can speak to one of the coaches in person once the season starts.
- Team Picture: We do not yet have a date on the calendar, but we will be offering team and individual pictures mid-season. Typhoons in Training are included in the team picture with the other Typhoons team members.

- As a reminder, Typhoons in Training must have the ability to swim to some extent at the start of the season. Our primary concern is safety, and we want the children to be able to swim to a lane line or to the side of the pool without assistance if necessary. The difference between the Typhoons team and Typhoons in Training is the ability to swim the length of the pool. Typhoons in Training are not required to be able to swim the length of the pool or any particular distance at the start of the season, but they do need independent mobility in the water. For Typhoons in Training, the goal will be to help the swimmers develop their strokes and increase their endurance.
Concerns or Complaints? We obviously hope that no one has concerns or complaints, but we would like to provide information about the best way to address any such concerns or complaints if you do. Please reach out to the members of the Swim Team Committee, rather than our coaches.
